City authorities beef up security for the Holy Week

he City government of Cotabato ties up with the local authorities in strengthening security measures in the city during the observance of the Holy Week, which is also the start of the campaign period for local political candidates.

In a month long preparation by the City government, the Philippine National Police, and the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office, authorities have already started conducting random check points in different parts of the city to make sure that the gun ban is properly observed. Aside from the security, the Traffic Management Personnel of both the city government and the local PNP, has also ironed out the traffic flow and rerouting that will be implemented during processions.

Secretary to the Mayor Aniceto Rasalan said, the city government is also in coordination with the Archdiocese of Cotabato City to make sure that there is sufficient security personnel deployed in every activity of the Catholic Church during the Holy Week.

He said medical teams are also on standby in churches and other activity areas.

"Nandun sila sa proximity ng area kung saan may simba at sa station of the cross, para kung merong in need of medical assistance, makakaresponde tayo agad. This coordination is also with the Department of Health and Cotabato Regional Medical Center. Yan sila ang mga kasama natin", Rasalan said.

Meanwhile, the city government advises those who would wish to join the processions to always take extra precaution in the midst of the extremely hot weather that Cotabato City is currently experiencing. Young children, pregnant women and senior citizens are not encouraged to join outdoor activities as they are the most vulnerable to fainting or even heat stroke.

"Pero kung hindi talaga mapigilan, mag dala ng payong at huwag kalimutan mag dala ng tubig as first aid para prevention sa heat-stroke. At huwag lumakad mag-isa, dpat may kasama atleast dalawa. So advice ko sa ating mga kababayan, Take the extra precautionary measure", Rasalan added.

Authorities also advise the Cotabate├▒os to remain vigilant at all times and always report any suspicious activity or persons in their communities to prevent any untoward incident from happening during this holy season.
