The activity, initiated by the PDEA and City Mayor Atty. Frances Cynthia Guiani-Sayadi, was supported by the different
sectors like the law enforcement, academe, women, youth, and the private. It aimed to promote health and wellness among Cotabateños, aside from its call to end the use of illegal drugs in the city. City Mayor Guiani-Sayadi said, the fight against illegal drugs and other forms of criminalities will continue in the city for the sake of the future of the young Cotabateños.
"I believe that the use of illegal drugs is the root of all crimes, which is why the police and I will not stop to run after its users and sellers", the mayor said. She added "a drug free city can lead to a crime free city".
For the past months, since Mayor Guiani-Sayadi won as the city's vice mayor until she assumed the mayoralty post, she has been very supportive of the operations of the local police against drug personalities in the city. Hundreds of individuals were arrested and millions worth of illegal drugs, paraphernalia were confiscated by the authorities.
Later, the joint PNP-LGU Ronda was created and institutionalized.
The fight against drugs is one of the city's programs that is parallel to President Rodrigo Duterte's call to end drug addiction in the country.
